About my Art and Journey

Hello, my name is Taylor S. Payne.

Exploring creativity through experience, influence, and a passion for growth.

I grew up immersed in art: my mother, a high school theatre teacher, made sure I experienced as much art and culture as possible. I found comfort in sketchbooks and pencils, learned to analyze portraits, and spent countless late evenings discussing themes after attending local shows. When asked as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d often say, “I want to be a starving artist in Paris!” Inspired by the Impressionists, who valued creating and collaborating, I naturally gravitated toward art as a way to connect with a creative community.

As my journey as an artist has developed over time, I’ve been deeply influenced by the places I’ve lived and worked: from the DC-Metro Area and Chicago to San Diego, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, BC. Each location has offered new perspectives, fresh inspiration, and a rich diversity of people and ideas. Travel, too, has been a constant source of influence, allowing me to learn from different cultures, communities, and experiences. I thrive on the opportunity to explore new places, meet new people, and absorb the energy of my surroundings to inspire my work.

As an artist, I believe in the power of sharing the human experience. Art is a universal language, and storytelling is what connects us all. Every project builds a community—whether through collaboration with fellow creators or the connection between the work and its audience.

What drives my work is a commitment to authenticity. I focus on understanding the deeper emotional and psychological layers of a subject or character to bring them to life in a meaningful way. Whether designing, creating, or managing a project, I aim to honor the essence of the work and stay true to its intention. My passion lies in fostering empathy and understanding within my artistic choices, with the goal of enhancing the viewer’s connection to the work.

With each new project, I strive to learn, adapt, and explore new materials or approaches. Just as art has evolved throughout history, I believe that as artists, we must continue to grow and adapt in order to stay relevant and engaged in the world around us.
