A Little Bit of History
After growing up in and around theatre throughout San Diego, Taylor moved to Chicago where she received her BFA in Costume Design and Technology from DePaul University’s The Theatre School. Over the last several years since then she has designed costumes, styled wigs, and applied makeup for theatre, film, and opera in Chicago, New York, Vancouver, Los Angeles and San Diego.
While pursuing freelance work Taylor began teaching in the theatre department at East Los Angeles College where she found a love for education. She also has worked with the California Educational Theatre Association to encourage theatre artistry with Southern California high schools where during the fall she attends various productions and adjudicates the show’s performance and technical work. Working with students to inspire a love of art is a great passion for Taylor and she hopes for it to always be a large part of her career.
Taylor is currently earning her MFA in Costume Design at San Diego State University where she recently designed “Just Like Us.” She has also recently designed “Hookman” in association with The Moxie Theatre, “Flight” with the School of Music, Eugene Onegin” and “La Cenerentola” with Opera Neo, and assisted as a fellow at Cygnet Theatre on their production of “Pride and Prejudice.” In addition to design Taylor has worked on other productions doing puppet construction, mask work, dying, painting, and various forms costume craft artistry. Taylor loves any opportunity to work with her hands and work through creative problems with a team.
